Acoustic Plaster System, Suffolk

Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics have been working with principal contractors Thomas Sinden to provide an acoustic plaster system to Gainsborough's House in Sudbury, Suffolk. The house is a heritage building and museum, which is undergoing redevelopment. We were contracted to install a Fade acoustic plaster system to manage reverberation.

Gainsborough's House is the former Independent Meeting-House where painter Thomas Gainsborough was baptised. Maintained by the Gainsborough's House Society and a team of volunteers, it is undergoing redevelopment with a new three-storey structure, including a new gallery. Both Heritage funding and funding from the Arts Council of England are supporting the redevelopment.

Controlling noise is essential in any gallery. Reverberation must be addressed to prevent unwanted sound travelling through the gallery and other parts of the building. Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics were appointed to install an acoustic plaster system to sloping ceilings, which help to manage any unwanted reverberation. This ensures the gallery is a quiet space that is comfortable for visitors to use.

The project involves installing around 250m2 of acoustic plaster, taking around 5 weeks to complete. The finished project presents a controlled environment suitable for use as a gallery for Gainsborough's paintings and the works of artists inspired by him.
