Acoustic Plaster Victoria Gate, Leeds

The Project

SCS North contacted Pacy and Wheatley to help with the design and delivery of an acoustic plaster solution, to manage the new shopping centres acoustic reverberation issues. The new shopping centre within the Victoria Quarter in Leeds, where numerous top brand fashion designers and shops will be residents, was being constructed joining onto the brand new John Lewis store. The requirement was for a class A solution to ensure the arcade had the ambient comfort and feeling of relaxation through the shopping experience.

The Solution

Pacy and Wheatley were asked for a class A solution to the walls of the arcade malls which curves around the contours of the design. Whilst having central areas with bullnose curved features around glazed areas, this involved special panels with relief cuts to the rear to form the curves around the substrates. The complex design of the walls had many areas that required detailing. Reverberation was reduced to a good level and an acoustically healthy environment for all users of the mall whether dinning or shopping for those top brands, all in all a comfortable environment has been created as well as stunning architecture. Complex dimple areas to the south mall were very complex however overcome by the team working with SCS and SRM. The project was completed on time and to budget for the client and he has offered comments below in a testimonial.

Specialist Acoustic Plaster System, Jersey

The Project

Pacy and Wheatley were appointed to a fantastic project on the island of Jersey. We were required to carry out specialist acoustic works in the swimming pool ceiling and the cinema room in order to control the reverberation and sound within the spaces.

We also installed several twinkle lights to the swimming pool’s ceiling which has a coffered design. The pool room converts into a ball-room with an electronic floor which covers the entire area, transforming the pool into a party venue.

The Cinema room has a 3-tier ceiling with special coloured render and required some acoustic absorption to remove any unwanted reverberation.

Ambient Acoustic Plaster System BMA London

The Project

Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics installed their Ambient Acoustic Plaster System in coordination of a major refurbishment of the British Medical Association Great Hall and Cafe areas by Wallis. The base of the BMA since 1925 originally designed by Sir Edwin lutyens.

BMA House, a grade II listed building set in the heart of London, a fantastically appointed facility offering a first class venue for conferences, corporate events, and weddings.

Hok International Architects, appointed designers for the major refurbishment. With the ornate original designs and colours, which required reproduction, the architect was to integrate modern methods to try to ensure the room was acoustically elevated by implementing Acoustic Absorption (noise), ensuring visitors and conference delegates could communicate clearly at normal speech levels.

The Solution

Hok international together with Kier Construction contacted Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics to discuss our Ambient Acoustic Plaster System which would provide the necessary reverberation control affording the required ambient atmosphere. Kier Construction instructed Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics, who were to adopt the two specified and differing shades of blue, both of which were successfully reproduced and applied. The project was completed successfully on time and to budget.

Architectural Acoustics

The Project

Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics are architectural acoustics specialists, working on a wide range of projects across the UK. This project was set in the dining hall of St Peter’s College in the heart of Oxford city centre, located in a building known as Hannington Hall. This is one of the three original buildings dating back to the 1800s, and is one of the earliest medieval halls of the university of Oxford. The dining hall is named after missionary Victorian bishop, James Hannington.

The hall is used for dining events, and can seat up to 130 people, ideal for special dinners and banquets. Original architectural features, particularly the old arched featured ceiling, was a haven for reverberation and noise attenuation problems. Acoustic problems could make the hall uncomfortable for events seating the full 130 guests, with unwanted noise raising and stifling conversation.

The Solution

The area consisted of a large arched ceiling, with mouldings forming curved bays. The architect carefully designed new ceiling baffles to be constructed from Rockfon Mono acoustic with specialist coloured render. As experts in architectural acoustics, our team understand the science behind improving the sound quality within a room, and we were selected to carry out the works.

We assisted in the design, creating curved baffles with upstands and intricate details to the perimeter, to house LED lights. This all had to be designed and installed in keeping with the surrounding architecture. There were many intricate details to overcome, which included the integration of the LED lighting to achieve the fantastic lighting effects. Working with the main contractor, Wooldridge and Simpson, we developed and achieved a superb project that controls the noise levels within Hannington Hall. Now, diners can enjoy the rich, banquet atmosphere with the reduction of unwanted reverberation.
