Acoustic Plaster Victoria Gate, Leeds

The Project

SCS North contacted Pacy and Wheatley to help with the design and delivery of an acoustic plaster solution, to manage the new shopping centres acoustic reverberation issues. The new shopping centre within the Victoria Quarter in Leeds, where numerous top brand fashion designers and shops will be residents, was being constructed joining onto the brand new John Lewis store. The requirement was for a class A solution to ensure the arcade had the ambient comfort and feeling of relaxation through the shopping experience.

The Solution

Pacy and Wheatley were asked for a class A solution to the walls of the arcade malls which curves around the contours of the design. Whilst having central areas with bullnose curved features around glazed areas, this involved special panels with relief cuts to the rear to form the curves around the substrates. The complex design of the walls had many areas that required detailing. Reverberation was reduced to a good level and an acoustically healthy environment for all users of the mall whether dinning or shopping for those top brands, all in all a comfortable environment has been created as well as stunning architecture. Complex dimple areas to the south mall were very complex however overcome by the team working with SCS and SRM. The project was completed on time and to budget for the client and he has offered comments below in a testimonial.

Specialist Acoustic Plaster Contractors in London

The Project

Specialist Acoustic Plaster Contractors, Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics, are delighted to have completed the St Lawrence House project in Soho, London. St Lawrence House was a redevelopment scheme that would create new restaurant facilities along with retail areas to the ground floor and 76,400m2 of office space. The building would have a large reception area, with hard finishes and would requiredsome absorption to be created to take away the unwanted reverberation.

The Solution

Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics quoted to install their Rockfon Mono Acoustic product which offers a 5 star absorption class, which would be perfect for the project. The rear wall had brackets that set a fine type arrangement to the wall and therefore protected the low level installation. Access panels where placed along the area to allow access to services, which ran along the full length of the wall.

We had to ensure the brackets had a perfect line of the finished material. This process was very labour intensive that required masking. However, a perfect line finish was created and the product created the reverberation control required for the space.

Acoustic Plaster for the Entertainment Industry

The Project

The Bloomsbury Theatre, London, opened in 1968, and has since showcased the best of music, dance and theatre, as well as a whole host of other performances within the entertainment industry. Quality acoustic control is a must for coherent performance, ensuring the customers enjoy each performance to its maximum, creating the perfect ambience for the shows. Our team supplied a specialist acoustic plaster installation to the theatre to help control sound and reverberation.

The theatre is part of one of the world’s leading universities, the UCL (University College London), which used to have 70 seats. Now, following a large renovation, the theatre has over 500 luxurious seats.

The Solution

Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics supplied a quotation to install our class A absorption classification Rockfon Mono Acoustic product. This was an ideal solution for the project, and was installed to the rear of the theatre at high levels, in specialist colour, black.

Part of the enjoyment of attending the Bloomsburg Theatre is the arrival, and excitement prior to the performance. Specific islands were built in situ within the entrance area of the theatre to ensure sound is controlled and to prevent reverberation through the main walkway areas.

This was a complex area, as it is set within the stairway of the main entrance. Multiple trades requiring access and egress made this a complex project.

The solution works perfectly. The sound is controlled as required, with various other acoustic products involved to enhance the experience.

Mandarin Oriental, Knightsbridge

The Project

Pacy And Wheatley Acoustics were commissioned by London Architects Denton Corker Marshall to provide an Ambient Acoustic Plaster Solution for prestigious restaurant Dinner, by Heston Blumenthal, within the newly refurbished Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Knightsbridge.

Three ceiling areas were to be treated in the main dining area, private dining and Chef’s Table. Each had a different design and ambient requirement. The main dining room had many small coffer areas which were timber moulded. A tight programme period would compound the installation.

The Solution

The small coffer areas in the main dining room required a significant amount of hand finishing as the sanding machinery was too large. The pigmented plaster was carefully chosen to match the architect’s colour specification delivering and enhanced visual perspective. The accomplished ambient noise reduction provides a relaxed environment for the diners.
Other trades works were behind programme; naturally, our acoustic installation teams worked out of hours to achieve the programme deadline. We also achieved zero defects.
