National Sailing Championship won by Doncaster Duo: Craig Wheatley and Paul Hobson
Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics are proud to announce that Craig Wheatley, Director, has won the Allen, North Sails and Selden Enterprise National Championships with his sailing partner Paul Hobson (Director of North Sails)! The Enterprise National Championships is a four-day sailing race held in Mount's Bay, Cornwall.
Taking home first place is an outstanding effort for Craig and Paul, who faced very harsh weather conditions over the competition. Bad wind was forecast throughout Cornwall, and a yellow wind warning saw the cancellation of the much-anticipated Boardmasters Festival. After four days of South Westerlies, the wind had dropped to a modest six to ten knots and turned towards the south-east – a very unusual wind direction, according to the locals.
Due to the bad weather conditions on Friday the races had to be rescheduled to a three-day event, because winds reached 40 knots! This wind speed proved to be unsafe to sail in, so the final race was rearranged into Wednesday's schedule. Throughout the competition Craig and Paul faced pouring rain and gusty winds, but that didn't stop them from taking away a total of seven trophies!
After reaching first place in four out of ten races, Craig and Paul were claimed winners of the championship. This was a milestone for Paul, as he was the only person ever to have won Championship week as both a helm and a crew! To top it all off, Craig collected the Betty Southword Trophy for winning first place with a crew over 40 years' old, and Paul received the Admiral's Trophy for winning first place with a helm over 50 years of age.
Sailing is a huge passion of Craig's, and one that he shares with David and Anthony Wheatley. This has been a great achievement, and everyone at Pacy & Wheatley is over the moon with the results. Congratulations Craig and Paul!
