Specialist Acoustic Plaster Cambridge
Posted on 22 April 2022
Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics work with a wide range of clients across the country, and we were delighted to recently provide our services for Barnes Construction.
We installed a specialist acoustic plaster system for Homerton College, which is located in Cambridge. This was part of the construction of a new main dining hall. The building used timber architecture, boasting a beautiful, state of the art design.
A perimeter of glulam trusses and oak panelling supported an inverted roof, which acted as the feature.
Architects Fielden Fowles designed the hall, creating a truly spectacular space yet understanding that there could be some acoustical issues, meaning absorption would need to be installed in the area, which is where our service came in.
How Pacy & Wheatley helped
Barnes Construction contacted Pacy & Wheatley to help them with the acoustical challenge. We offered a number of product options, settling with the Fade 25mm system which provides a class B absorption over the sloping soffit.
We installed 440m2 of the system, which has a smooth, pure white finish to complement the features in the room.
The installation itself was quite awkward due to its height, but the main contractor installed a great scaffold for our team to work from, which helped the quality of the installation.
The absorption in the space has worked wonders. Diners can enjoy the atmosphere in the space much better with controlled reverberation.
"A very good job and a very friendly team; would use Pacy & Wheatley anytime"
Mark Larter, Project Manager.
