Project Description
Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics were invited by GEN to tender for the installation of a seamless acoustic plaster ceiling as part of the redevelopment and refurbishment of New Zealand House in St James’, London. The project spans a range of interior spaces, including office floors, meeting rooms, and hospitality areas.
New Zealand House is a Grade II listed building, designed and constructed in the 1950s, and officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1963. Its listed status has made the planning process particularly thorough, with every design decision requiring approval from London Heritage. Given the building's heritage and architectural significance, all work is being carried out with careful consideration to respect and preserve the original features.
The Solution
After thorough discussions between GEN, Pacy, and Wheatley Acoustics, it was agreed that just over 300 m² of Fade One Acoustic Plaster would be installed throughout New Zealand House, spanning 12 different levels. The installation is set to completely transform the acoustic environment across the building, enhancing comfort and functionality for both office and hospitality spaces.
Fade One was chosen for its exceptional acoustic performance, delivering high levels of noise absorption in areas where large groups of people congregate, such as busy lift lobbies, circulation zones, and meeting rooms. Its ability to control unwanted background noise and reverberation makes it an ideal solution for a mixed-use building, ensuring speech clarity, privacy, and a more comfortable environment for all occupants.
The project demonstrates a careful balance between heritage preservation and modern acoustic performance. The elegant, seamless finish of Fade One not only enhances sound quality but also ensures that the building's visual character is maintained, respecting the architectural integrity of this Grade II listed landmark. By combining technical excellence with refined design, the installation supports the client's vision for a modern, stylish interior without compromising on acoustic comfort or aesthetic appeal.
