Leisure Acoustic Ceiling Installation Birmingham
The Project
Wates Construction Ltd. has been appointed as the main contractor to build the exciting new Sandwell Aquatic Centre, which was part of the Commonwealth Games in 2022. The project includes:
A 50m Olympic-sized swimming pool.
A 25m diving pool.
Another community pool.
Seating for up to 1,000 people.
The project began in September 2019 and will become open to the public in 2023 as a state-of-the-art community leisure centre.
Pacy & Wheatley Acoustics were invited to tender as the need for acoustic absorption was extremely high. It is essential in swimming pools that there is a short reverberation time and minimal echo to ensure speech intelligibility and safety in the event of public announcements. It lets people swim leisurely and enjoy their time there without loud noises. The Fade Acoustic System is imperative in providing peaceful surroundings for all visitors.
The Solution
Following many design meetings, Pacy & Wheatley were successful in the discussions to install the works in two phases.
Phase 1 in 2021 was to carry out exceptional coloured works to the wall behind the diving boards with the sizeable blue fade acoustic plaster section, creating class A absorption. For the opposite end roof, we installed Fade acoustic plaster to the high-level areas in Beige, Pacy & Wheatley, completed on time and worked well with our clients. Everything was complete in plenty of time for the Commonwealth Games held in the summer of 2022.
Following the games, the main stand seating was removed, large open spaces were formed, and the pool hall side was to be treated with fade acoustic plaster in a beige and cream colours, working to the whole elevation with Wates to ensure timings were met and quality which P&W pride themselves in.
Over both phases, P&W installed 1600m2 of Fade acoustic plaster system within the pool hall as the product is 100% RH, is not affected by the pool environment and provides high acoustic absorption.
It is a great project for Pacy and Wheatley Acoustics to be involved in.
