The Project

Priory Church of St. John. The Church on Clerkenwell Road London has fascinating origins in the Order of St John in 11th century Jerusalem, now the St John's Ambulance. The high ceiling within the Nave suffered greatly with ambient noise. As part of a major redecoration of this listed building an Ambient Acoustic Solution was suggested by architects Donald Insall Associates. The entire ceiling is suspended and the original panelling, cornicing and decoration could not be compromised.

The Solution

Pacy And Wheately Acoustics had recently completed a similar installation for HOK International in the Great Hall of the British Medical Association and we were specified by the architects to provide the acoustical solution for Priory Church. Our Seamless Acoustic Plaster system fitted perfectly to accommodate the architects wishes and retain the original appearance. Following extensive protection to the cornicing, the system was applied to the individual coffers. A suitable decorative pigment was incorporated within the Acoustic Plaster medium. The finished project produced a much reduced level of ambient noise and provided an acoustically comfortable environment for the congregation.
